Here we go again...

Well I'm pretty excited that we are expecting baby #2 in March!
Already I have noticed some major differences from pregnancy #1.

First, I am beyond tired! Going back to work full time, teaching at the gym, picking up an extra teaching gig at the University, chasing around a toddler...I never have a dull moment! While I have always been a busy person, I am ready to hit the sheets at 6pm! I have to force myself to make it til 8. What's worse, I have horrific insomnia. By 5am, I am awake. While before I would get up and hit the gym, that isn't an option for me this time: I need to get up to get myself ready for work before my little darling wakes around 6:30. Because I'm limited on when I can go to the gym, to try and keep up my workouts on the days I'm not teaching, I need to be extra creative! This means more walks with the dog and exercise routines at home. It also means I have to remember to give myself a break! It's ok to fall asleep by 8pm if that's what you need.

Second, nausea...blah! I definitely didn't have this with my first. I think partly because before I was up and out first thing in the morning, the exercise was great for combatting the nausea. This time, I'm up first thing in the morning, but it's a few hours before my day really begins. Eating lots of healthy food has been helping, particularly protein. I have also switched to taking my multivitamin at night rather than on an empty stomach in the morning. I'm going to try getting the dog out for a morning walk (I don't think she's going to be very happy, she's not a morning dog) so the fresh air might help.

Third, I look pregnant already! I swear I saw the baby belly the moment I saw the stripes on the stick. My body seems to be adjusting to the pregnant stage very quickly and I'm already feeling it in my lower back and abdominals. This means I definitely need to be extra aware of my posture and keeping my core tight. Being on my feet most of the day and running around the school, it's easy to let everything sag and let being tired excuse sloppy muscles.

Fourth, cravings! It's funny how quickly you can convince yourself that because you're pregnant, you can eat whatever you want. My staffroom is also often filled with yummy treats. I've decided not to sign up for the treat days so I'm not tempted to scarf down too much at recess time. Instead, I'm packing my lunch-bag filled with good foods, an insane amount actually! I generally have a snack mid-morning (after a giant breakfast), salad of some kind for lunch, a few pieces of fruit, some crackers, and something sweet to curb the desires. I've been bad the first trimester giving into my sweet cravings but those seem to have dropped off.

My goal this pregnancy is to gain 30lbs max! So far at almost 13 weeks, I'm at 5lbs, 1 more than I should aim to be but not too bad. One big thing is not to be too scared by everyone telling me: it's tougher to get your body back after your second! Just means I have to be extra conscience throughout this pregnancy!

I hope you're all are having great success in the pregnancy and post!

See you at the gym!
